It’s time to let go of 2024 and open the curtains for 2025! There have been a lot of ups and downs in 2024, but you can get your mind off the bumps in the road by thinking about the exciting new things the new year offers. From music, sports, fashion, and more, 2025 awaits tremendous and significant change for the country. Now, here are six things to celebrate in 2025.
1. Super Bowl LIX (Eagles win! 2/9/25)
The 59th Super Bowl for the NFL will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana, with the playoffs beginning around January 18th-19th. The NFC (National Football Conference) and AFC (American Football Conference) winners will go head-to-head in the Super Bowl. According to FOX Sports and USA Today, rapper Kendrick Lamar is expected to perform in this year’s Super Bowl halftime show.
However, something to consider is whether security will be raised during this year’s Super Bowl. After an attack on New Year’s Day in New Orleans claimed the lives of at least fourteen people and injured dozens, what will the city do to prevent such a tragedy from occurring at a highly electrifying and colossal event? In a brief interview from MSNBC with Jean-Paul Morell, Councilmember At-Large and Vice President of the New Orleans City Council reports that events such as the Sugar Bowl, Super Bowl, and Mardi Gras celebration will increase security. “When this level of security is ramped up, just in the short-term, during the investigation, through the Sugar Bowl, through the Super Bowl even, it is going to be a very different New Orleans that you’ll be experiencing…”
2. Birth of Generation Beta
Say goodbye to Generation Alpha, and wave hello to Generation Beta. From 2025 to 2039, all babies born will be a part of Generation Beta. Their lives will revolve around AI and technology, similar to Generation Alpha. They will also be the children of young people from Generation Y (millennials) and Generation Z. If you’re curious, the next generation after Beta will be Gamma.
2. Grand Theft Auto VI Release
The highly anticipated video game Grand Theft Auto VI, by Rockstar Games, will be released in the fall of this year. It was announced around the end of 2023 and will be played on the Xbox and PlayStation. The last game in this series, Grand Theft Auto V, was released on September 17th, 2013, so Grand Theft Auto V will be around twelve years old by the time the new one is released.
4. Popular Movies/Shows
The excitement continues as many movies and TV shows are set to release in 2025. For example, the popular TV show Squid Games released its second season on December 26th, 2024. Teasers show that the next and most likely final season will be released sometime around June 2025. The popular movie Wicked became the top-grossing film of 2024 and of all time based on a Broadway musical. The musical’s second part (and the final one) is set to release sometime around late November 2025. Captain America: Brave New World, Paddington in Peru, A Minecraft Movie, and many more films are expected to be brought to theaters in 2025. TV shows such as The Last of Us, Wednesday, Love Island USA, etc., are expected to release new seasons in 2025.
5. The 2025 Met Gala
The Met Gala will return on May 5th, 2025, with guests dressing up in the appropriate theme: ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.’ According to an article by Vogue, the theme “will take the Black dandy as its subject, examining the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora.” Celebrities such as Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, and others will co-host the event.
However, celebrities have struggled to follow the theme of this event. While their outfits may look incredible and stunning, most misinterpret the theme and look nothing like it.
6. The 2025 GRAMMYs
The Grammys returned on February 2nd with awards for all types of music. Not only that, but it will also recognize producers and others behind the scenes on top hits. If you want to see the complete list, Billboard lists all the categories and nominees for this year’s Grammys.
