Interviews with Girls Team Captains

West Girls Tennis: An Interview with Angela Rath and Michelle Le

IG: What are you looking forward to this season?
WGT: The team is looking progressive. We can see that everyone is putting in their maximum effort and that’s great!
IG: What are your thoughts on the courts not being finished?
WGT: We are happy they are getting the courts, however it’s unfortunate that they won’t be done until the winter which means we won’t be able to have our last match on our home court.
IG: How was preseason for the team?
WGT: Preseason was different from last year, because we worked alot on footwork and on technique.
IG: Do you find that the team works well together?
WGT: Definitely! I’s say we’re a close team and really work well together as a team.
IG: What are you looking forward to this season?
WGT: We are looking forward to seeing how we improve from the beginning of the year to the end.

IG: How have practices been going?
WGV: Practices have been good. Everyone has a good time while still getting done what needs to be done in order to be a good team.
IG: Would you say the team gets along well?
WGV: Definitely! We find that the closer a team the better they perform, so we have team bonding almost every weekend.
IG: Who would you say are your biggest competitors?
WGV: Well, sadly we don’t get to play East, but a big competitor we have this year is Sterling High School.
IG: What are you looking forward to this season?
WGV: We are looking forward to seeing how the work we put in at practice changes the way we play.

KB: What are you looking forward to this season?
WGS: We hope to improve our record from last year but most importantly make a successful playoff run.
KB: How do you plan to achieve these goals?
WGS: We are working on
communication
and working as a unit on and off the field.
KB: How have practices and preseason been going?
WGS: More than any other year we have definitely been working on footwork and quick passes.
We are hoping to build our team up from a strong defense this season.
KB: How do you feel the team reacted to a new varsity coach?
WGS: Our new coach is great and brings a fresh perspective to our team. We’re excited to see how this season will be compared to others.
KB: Erin, how does it feel to be able to pursue your dream of college soccer at Philadelphia
University?
ES: It was a stressful process to get where I am, but I’m eager to pursue my dream of playing
college soccer. But I’ll definitely miss playing for West.

West Field Hockey: An Interview with Colleen Clancy, Anne Mullarkey, and Ciara Brickner

KB: What are you looking forward to this season?
WFH: We are looking forward to a season with more wins and hopefully to make it to the second round of playoffs.
KB: How do you plan to achieve this?
WFH: Well, we started our season well with a big win over our rival East which was a great way to kick off the season. Strategically, we have been practicing a team focus on attacking and applying a lot of pressure to the other team.
KB: Would you guys say you’re close as a team?
WFH: Yes, with only 2 seniors leaving last year and only 2 freshmen we have basically the same group of girls as last year which makes it easy for us to bond and create a close knit team.
