Wrestling Recap
June 2, 2016
The West wrestling team opened the season at Lenape, pulling out a win highlighted with pins by seniors Manny Morales and James Potts. The Lions then followed with a dominant showing in the Bart Payne tournament, taking 1st in five different weight classes, and taking 1st overall in the pool of ten schools.
After two losses, West enjoyed a ten-meet winning streak, over which seniors James Potts and Connor Rogovich combined for 11 pins. The Lions’ streak came to an end with a close 30-28 loss to Eastern, followed with a win over Shawnee, then another loss to Gateway. Over their final eight meets, West would blow out rival Cherry Hill East 66-9, and only experience two more losses.
The Lions had several successful runs in the NJSIAA Tournament. Multiple wrestlers advanced through districts and on to regions, and West was even represented in states by both Rogovich and Potts. Overall the Lions’ wrestling team was able to experience a successful season, especially thanks to its strong senior class.
