After a long and hard-fought season, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles went head to head in the final football game of the season: The Super Bowl LIX. The Super Bowl game was held in the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 9, 2025. Tensions were high, especially with people wondering if the Chiefs would emerge victorious for the third time. However, with a score of 22-40, the Eagles get the big W!

The pre-game show was neutral, not too lively, yet it kept the mood and excitement. Jon Batiste, a singer and co-composer of the score for the Pixar animated film “Soul,” would be singing the Super Bowl National Anthem. Trombone Shorty and Lauren Daigle would sing “America the Beautiful” together. Stephanie Nogueras, Matt Maxey, and Otis Jones IV were the sign interpreters during the pre-show and the Halftime show.

The Eagles had four touchdowns and four successful three-point field goals. Jake Elliot, the kicker for the team, didn’t miss a single field-goal kick, even when penalty flags denied it! In the first quarter, the Eagles had their first touchdown by none other than Jalen Hurts with the “Brotherly Shove” or “Tush Push” with a successful extra point kick. The first quarter score ended as 7-0, Eagles.

Jake Elliot made a successful three-point field goal kick in the second quarter, slightly boosting the score. Following that, Cooper DeJean made a pick-six, running thirty-eight yards to get the touchdown (fun fact: it was his birthday). After that, around the end of the second quarter, the Eagles scored another touchdown by AJ Brown, who ran twelve yards. The first half of the game concluded with the Chiefs with 0 points and the Eagles with a massive lead of 24.

During the Halftime Show, the NFL invited rapper Kendrick Lamar to perform this year. Featuring interludes from actor Samuel L. Jackson, Kendrick Lamar performs a bunch of songs, which include “squabble up,” “wacced out murals”, “HUMBLE.,” “DNA.,” “Euphoria,” “man at the garden,” “peekaboo,” “luther” and “All the Stars” featuring SZA as a backup singer, “Not Like Us” featuring female tennis pro-Serena Williams as a backup dancer (also Drake’s ex-girlfriend, which could mean that she was there also to diss him), and finally “tv off” to end the bright and energetic Halftime Show.

Back to the game, the third quarter only got better for Philadelphia. Jake Elliot scored a three-point field goal, and Devonta Smith caught a 46-yard throw by Jalen Hurts later in the quarter. With thirty-six seconds left in the quarter, the Chiefs finally made their first touchdown by Xavier Worthy, who made a 24-yard catch passed by Patrick Mahomes. They then tried to make a two-point conversion; however, they were not successful. The third quarter would end as 34-6, Eagles.

In the final quarter, the Eagles would make their final points, with Jake Elliot making two three-point field goal kicks over 45+ yards. Later during the quarter, the Chiefs made two touchdown passes by Patrick Mahomes to DeAndre Hopkins and the second touchdown to Xavier Worthy. They got a two-point conversion in only one and were unsuccessful in the other. After that, once the Eagles got the ball in the final two minutes, they waited out the timer and were able to win the game. The final score was 40-22 Eagles, meaning the Eagles won this year’s Super Bowl!
Throughout the entire game, the Eagles dominated most of the game. The Eagles had three hundred forty-five yards while the Chiefs had two hundred seventy-five. However, in passing yards, Patrick Mahomes outbeat Jalen Hurts with a total of two hundred twenty-six to two hundred ten. The Chiefs also had a higher average yards per play with 5.6, while the Eagles had 4.9. Nevertheless, the Eagles had more rushing yards than the Chiefs, as they had a hundred thirty-five while the Chiefs only had forty-nine, which proved very beneficial. As a result of all of this, the Eagles were able to have twenty-one first downs and make a whopping total of seventy plays, while the Chiefs had twelve first downs and forty-nine plays. The Eagles held the ball for almost thirty-seven minutes while the Chiefs barely averaged twenty-three.
The Eagles’ defense also played well, which is no surprise since they are the NFL’s number-one-ranked defense. They sacked Patrick Mahomes six times during the game, while the Chiefs only sacked Jalen Hurts twice. They also caused the Chiefs to lose a fumble and intercepted Mahomes’ throws twice. However, the Eagles received more penalties (eight) than the Chiefs this time, yet the Chiefs lost more yards than the Eagles due to their seven penalties.
The Chiefs did not excel much because the offensive line struggled to keep Patrick Mahomes from being sacked. Something to note is that the Eagles’ defensive line, throughout the entire game, did not blitz at all. Nonetheless, the Eagles sacked Mahomes triple the times the Chiefs sacked Hurts.

Many celebrities also attended the intense game. Rappers like Jay-Z, Ice Spice, etc., watched the game, along with pop star singer Taylor Swift supporting her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, during the game. Comedian and actor Kevin Hart was also seen cheering on the Eagles, and actress Anne Hathaway was cheering for them. As seen in a story on the NFL’s Instagram account, Soccer star Lionel Messi also went to the stadium. But what grabbed the attention of all the people in the stadium was when the screen panned over to the 47th President of the U.S., Donald Trump, who was seen saluting in the stadium during the National Anthem.
Some fun facts are that before the game began, Devonta Smith was seen getting emotional before the Super Bowl commenced. Louisiana was his home state before he became part of the Eagles. Patrick Mahomes had the worst point deficit in his entire career during the game: thirty-four points. While the Chiefs did boost the score by a few points, in an article by Sky Sports, Patrick Mahomes states that the 40-22 loss to the Eagles was “the worst thing in the world.” Jalen Hurts also won the title of MVP for the Super Bowl LIX.
Overall, all Eagles fans must be glad to be an Eagle today. The football season is over, and we can only wait until August. Congratulations to Philly for a well-deserved win in the Super Bowl LIX.
